Folders: Your child will come home each day from school with his/her bronze/gold homework folder. Graded papers and items for parents will be in the right pocket of the folder labeled "Keep at Home". Any items that need to be brought back to school will be in the left pocket of the folder labeled "Return to School".
Absences: Attendance is VERY important to your child's education. Many of the activities we complete in the classroom are hands-on and cannot be sent home. When your child is absent they are missing unique learning opportunities. Please try to keep this in mind when scheduling appointments. If your child is ill, please call the school office (866-5441) on the day of the absence. If you would like me to send your child's homework home, please call the request in as early as possible to the school office. Also, please allow me enough time to gather your child's classwork together for pick up (an afternoon pick up time would be best or sending the assignments with another student). If you are planning a family vacation or your child will miss school for an extended period of time, missed assignments will be given when your child returns to school. Your child will have as many days to make up missed assignments as days of their absence.
Transportation: If your child will be going home a different way, please send a note to school. If plans change during the day, please call the school office at 866-5441 to notify us of the changes. Please do not e-mail the transportation change to your child's teacher, as he/she might not check their e-mail before dismissal time. WE CANNOT SEND A STUDENT HOME A DIFFERENT WAY UNLESS WE HAVE A PARENT NOTE OR PHONE CALL.
Recess: In the winter months we DO try to go outdoors for recess, so PLEASE dress your child accordingly. Students are not sent outside in extreme weather conditions.
Birthdays: We will be celebrating each child's birthday throughout the school year. Please feel free to send treats in on your child's special day. If your child's birthday should fall on one of our days off, a treat may be sent on the day before or after. Please let your child's teacher know when you are going to send the treat so they may plan for it in our daily schedule. The treats need to be store bought and commercially packaged with the nutritional information on the packaging.
Volunteer Applications and Background Checks: State law requires parents to complete a volunteer application form in order to volunteer your time in the classroom for projects, parties, field trips, etc. Forms were sent home earlier in the year, but please contact your child's teacher if you need another form sent home.
Lunch Money: Please send lunch money in an envelope and include your child's name, teacher's name, and the words "Lunch Money" on the front (or use an envelope provided by the school for the Bank-A-Meal program). Lunch money can be paid yearly, monthly, or weekly. You will receive memos when your child's account balance is getting low. You may also pay for your child's meals by using E-funds. Questions regarding lunch and payments can be made to Mrs. Zeider, Director of Food Services, at the administration building (866-7822).
